Sample Test 2

Analysis of Solid N

Test Procedure

You are provided with Solid N. Carry out the tests below and write down your observations and inferences.

  • (i)Place solid N in a boiling tube and add 12cm3 of distilled water. Divide the resulting solution into six portions.
  • (ii)To the 1st portion add 2M sodium hydroxide dropwise till in excess
  • (iii)To the 2nd portion add aqueous sodium sulphate
  • (iv)To the 3rd portion add dilute 2M Nitric (v) acid
  • (v)To the 4th portion, add lead (ii) nitrate
  • (vi)To the 5th portion add 2 drops of barium chloride solution
  • (vii)To the 6th portion, add aluminium foil followed by drops of aqueous NaOH then warm.Test the gases produced with red and blue litmus paper.

Tips: To start, ...click on boiling tube in the display rack to select it before placing the sample.
